Develop a short- and long-term plan to acquire and promote boat-washing stations.

  • Identify preferred locations, scope each situation, and determine an approximate cost for each. The location needs power and water, as waterless boat-washing stations do not decontaminate the live wells and the inside of motors:
    • Power: 240V/100 Amp service for propane water heating (400 washes in a 400lb tank, which would cost about $400 to fill or 240V/300 Amp service for electric water heating
    • Water is roughly 10-20 gallons/wash, 3 gpm
  • The location needs to be 30 metres from surface water and not drain to surface water
  • The location requires a pit to collect water. (18'x36'x1' with 3/4" - 1 1/2" rock with sand at the bottom)
  • Possible locations:
    • The Town Dock
      • The location has not been formally proposed or approved, but could be used to get baseline estimates. As this location has utilities, it is the easiest location to get a boat-washing station installed and could be the first boat-washing station.
    • North and south of Temagami would be ideal.
      • No potable water (filtration is a possibility) or power
    • Future Marten River rest area.
      • Not yet built; no provisions for boat-washing stations
    • Marten River Fire Department?
    • Marten River Provincial Park
      • Access for non-park attendees?
      • Red tape with the province?
      • Consult with Dave Ward
    • N'dakimenan retail wood lot south of town.
      • Need to get buy-in from the Teme Augama Anishinabek and have them lead the effort.
      • No potable water; filtration not possible because of chemical contamination.
    • Temagami Access Rd/Highway 11 so as to catch paddlers on Iceland Lake.
      • No potable water (filtration is a possibility) or power
    • Mine Landing/Temagami Access Road Dock.
      • Need to get buy-in from the Teme Augama Anishinabek
      • MNR LUP
      • No potable water (filtration is a possibility). Is power available?
    • Finlayson Point Provincial Park
      • Access for non-park attendees?
      • Red tape with the province?
  • Pricing for just the station (no site prep) from the Summer 2026 demo:
    • Paddle stations: $20k
    • Installation into pre-existing building: $26k
    • Shed: $35-$40k
    • Trailer: $50-$55k
